Move Abroad Index is an independent editorial resource. We are not a moving company and we never rank or recommend one. Our job is to be the most useful, most honest answer for moving between any two countries, and to be transparent about how we get there.

Who writes and reviews the work

The index is built and maintained by a small editorial team led by its two co-founders, Fredrik Filipsson and Morten Andersen, who have each lived and worked across seven countries over the past two decades. They share the writing across the index between them, and every page names the author who wrote it and shows the last reviewed date. Each page is checked against this standard, and reviewed by the editorial team, before it is published.

Where the facts come from

We separate two kinds of information and treat them differently.

Costs

Moving costs are presented as indicative ranges, always labelled with the year, never as fake precise figures. Ranges are built from the cost factors that actually move the number on a given route: volume by home size, shipping mode (shared container, sole use container, road freight, or air), the season, port access, and destination delivery distance. We tell you those factors on the page so you can sanity check the range against your own move. The only way to get a firm price is a binding pre move survey, and we say so every time.

Customs, visas, and residency

Customs treatment of used household goods, visa routes, and registration steps are researched per corridor against primary sources: the destination country government, its customs and tax authorities, and the relevant immigration bodies. Because these rules change and depend on personal circumstances, every customs and visa section carries a visible verify before you move note and the clear framing that the page is information, not legal, tax, or immigration advice. We name the specific agency to check rather than sending you to a generic search.

How we handle accuracy

• We do not invent figures, quotes, reviews, awards, or credentials. Anything we cannot stand behind does not go on the page.
• Costs carry the year they were modelled for. Customs and visa notes carry a verify before you move instruction and point to the official source.
• Every page shows a last reviewed date. When rules or costs change materially, we update the page and move the date forward.
• Where a number is indicative rather than firm, we label it that way. We would rather be honestly approximate than falsely precise.

Our neutrality rule

No moving company is ever named, listed, linked, ranked, or recommended anywhere on this site. We teach the neutral criteria that separate a safe international mover from a risky one, such as FIDI or IAM affiliation, real experience on your corridor, a binding pre move survey, clear insurance terms, and consistent independent reviews. Then, only if you want it, we pass your request to vetted international movers so you can compare them on your own terms.

How we are funded, and why it keeps us honest

The index is free to read with no signup. Movers pay a fee only when you choose to request a quote. That means our incentive is to send movers well informed people who already understand their route, which is exactly what honest, complete pages produce. We disclose this funding model openly on our About page. It is also why we will never trade neutrality for a placement: the moment we ranked a company, the index would be worth less to you and to us.
